Feature deep dive

Everything Nubi does,
and why.

Six things to know before you back. The rules Nubi lives by, what the hidden care rating does, how the collection works, and what happens when you slip up.

Nubi module on the back of a phone
01
Snap and charge

Clicks on. Charges with
the cable you already own.

Nubi clicks onto the back of your phone with MagSafe (iPhone 12 and newer) or the Qi2 magnetic ring on Android. Take it off, snap it back, it stays put.

It runs on its own battery and charges over USB-C, so it never touches your phone's battery. If the Kickstarter goes well, a charging dock joins the line-up as a stretch goal: a small stand Nubi can sleep on at night.

MagSafe & Qi2
Magnetic ring, no case adapter needed on supported phones.
USB-C
Built-in battery. Charge it like your earbuds.
Charging dock stretch goal
Unlocks if the campaign goes well. Nubi's bedside table.
Your phone's battery
Untouched. Nubi has its own.
02
One rule

Your screen is
the only button.

Nubi reads one signal: is your phone locked? While you use your phone, Nubi gets hungry during the day (07:00 to 22:00) and tired at night (22:00 to 07:00).

The only way to feed it or let it rest is to lock your screen. There is no feed button, no treats to buy, no shortcut. Just the phone, face down.

Try it: flip day and night, then lock the phone.

03
The hidden care rating

A care rating
you never get to see

Every locked minute and every restful night flows into one hidden care rating. We keep it hidden on purpose: a visible number turns into a thing to chase, and Nubi is not another streak. The rating decides two things: which tier Nubi grows into, and whether a neglected Nubi steps back a stage.

What goes in
Locked minutes by day, steady beats long
Locked nights, earlier and longer is better
Consistency across weeks, not one heroic day
Care rating
?
Hidden. Always.

{{ l.how }}

The rating picks the tier. Which Nubi you get inside that tier is random, with the odds tilted toward forms you have not raised yet. Two people with a perfect score can still end up with different Nubis.

04
Fully grown

Grown up? Keep it,
or hatch the next one.

When Nubi is fully grown you can keep it exactly as it is, for as long as you like. Or you start a new egg. Two reasons people go again:

Collect them all
Every form you raise is saved to your collection first. Nothing is lost when you start over.
Aim for a higher tier
Got a Normal? Steadier care next round can carry the new egg to Rare, Epic or Legendary.

05
When you slip

A stage down.
Never a tier down.

Nubi shows neglect as hunger by day and tiredness by night. Only when the hidden care rating drops below its threshold does Nubi step back a growing-up stage. One bad day changes nothing. A pattern does.

Adult · Rare again
The adult you earned stays the adult you earned.

A neglected grown-up steps back to Teen and has to grow up again. But which adult it becomes does not change: the same tier, the same Nubi. The only thing that changes that is a full reset to an egg, and that is your call, in the app.

06
The companion app

Small on purpose.
Three jobs to start.

1
Pass the lock state
Locked or not. That is the only thing about your phone Nubi ever hears.
2
Keep your collection
Every Nubi you have raised, tier and form, saved on your phone. The reason to hatch again.
3
Reset to an egg
One button, one confirmation. Your grown Nubi goes into the collection, a new egg appears on the screen.

That is the app at launch. We are leaving the door open for extras later, such as cosmetic items to dress up your Nubi.

What will not change: no account, no cloud, no usage reports. The collection lives on your phone and nowhere else.

That's all of it.

No hidden mechanics. Tiers are earned by care, never bought. Pledges from €69 to €89 when the Kickstarter opens in Q4 2027.
